Kumbh Mela

travel photography

Earlier this year I was asked to make a film about a group of American pilgrims traveling to the Hindu festival of the Kumbh Mela which takes place every twelve years on the banks of the Ganges at Allahabad. Over the course of the month long festival over 100 million people were said to have visited to bathe at the confluence of the 3 rivers – the Jumna, the Ganges and the mythological Saraswati.

I was mostly shooting HD video on a big-old Sony850 TV camera but also managed a few shots on the 5D… this week I’ll upload a couple each day and then the whole gallery on Saturday.

Today’s are from the road trip between Varanasi and Allahabad.
